Palpable tension has enveloped Imo residents after reports of gunmen setting many vehicles ablaze in Okigwe and Onuimo Local Government Areas of Imo State, on Thursday.
The latest incident came on the heels of reported attack and killing of the driver of a Hilux car including the abduction of passengers of an 18-seater commuter bus at Ngor Okpala area of Imo State, along the Owerri- Aba express road the same last week by suspected herdsmen.
The development has triggered fear as residents of the affected area in Okigwe fled for safety amid the violence which further escalates insecurity in the state and Southeast region.
Reports indicate that several trucks were seen engulfed in flames, while bystanders expressed shock and sympathy as fire raged.
Imolites who preferred anonymity lamented the security situation in the state, and urged Governor Hope Uzodimma and security agencies to up the ante in order to curb violence in the state.
They expressed worry at the renewed insecurity ravaging the state, lamenting the level of destruction of lives and property as a result.
Imokites have equally called on the governor and security agencies to take immediate actions stem the tide of mounting insecurity in the state.
